Block puzzles look simple: drag a piece onto an 8x8 board, fill a row or a column, watch it clear. But the difference between a score of 800 and a score of 8,000 is almost always planning, not luck.
Here are the habits that helped us the most while testing Blockmoon.
1. Keep the center open
The middle of the board is where every piece fits. Build along the edges and corners first, and leave the center as your safety zone. When the board gets crowded, that open space is what keeps the game going.
2. Always have a home for the big pieces
The 3x3 square and the long 1x5 line end more games than anything else. Before you place a small piece, ask yourself: if a 3x3 comes next, where would it go? Try to keep at least one 3x3 hole and one full empty row or column available.
3. Clear more than one line at a time
Clearing two or three lines with one piece is worth much more than clearing them one by one. Build rows that are one block away from full, then drop a single piece that finishes several of them together.
4. Chain your clears
Many block puzzles, including Blockmoon, reward you for clearing lines on back-to-back moves. Once you start a combo, look for the next clear before you place anything else.
5. Look at all three pieces first
You usually get a set of pieces to place. Don’t just grab the first one. Think about the order: sometimes placing the awkward piece first leaves room for the easy ones.
6. Slow down
There is no timer in Blockmoon for a reason. The best players we know take a breath before every move. A calm game is a longer game, and a longer game is a higher score.
Good luck, and share your best score with us at contact@gikagame.com.
